How does alcohol affect the body? It affects the heart, for one. Heavy drinking affects electrical impulses that are responsible for heart beat. Long-term heavy drinking can permanently alter heart beat and increase the risk of cardiomyopathy. Excess drinking of alcohol increases the risk of stroke and high blood pressure, too.
Someone suffering from alcohol abuse can become more aggressive and his or her ability to function (hold a job or maintain relationships with friends and family) can seriously deteriorate. Heavy drinkers may experience tremors, panic attacks, confusion, hallucinations, and seizures.
To get some answers, take a look at the main causes of alcohol abuse. Genetics. Among the most common causes is genetics. If a parent or other family member is addicted to alcohol, your risk of this addiction is increased. Note that there’s no single gene that causes alcoholism, but rather dozens of them.
Symptoms can include anxiety and irritability, unsteadiness, seizures or tremors, sweating, fever, nausea, vomiting, insomnia and even hallucinations. One of the most severe signs of alcoholism is called Delirium Tremens (DT), symptoms include: Severe Agitation or Confusion. Fever.
